Observing images taken from the inside of the human body is just one example of how the advancement of technology in the fields of life sciences and engineering has helped make “life” more “visible”Medicine terms, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) and Computerrized Tomography (CT) have became familiar even among nonmedical practitioners,while genetic information can now be expressed in visible form as a combination of letter.Yet for most people, many of these abstract images have little meaning without an accoumpaning explanationfrom a physician or someone with an advanced knowledge of medicine.“Art and Medicine -Medicine as Metaphor” attempts to fill this ever widening gap from the perspective of the art world.The exhibition is being held until March 24 at NTT Inter comunicatuin Center in Nishi Shinjuku, Tokyo.The show brings together works featuring medicine.The show brings together works featuring medical images, medical equipment or the idea of medicine. The artists included in show comprise both those who do not.
Thus , the works on show at the exhibition embrace the viewpoints of both groups.
Visual Brains, a unit comprising Sei Kazama and Hatsune Ohtsu, uses the images taken during Ohtsu’s pregnancy
in their video installation, Scale. The work also includes images showing the DNA test results of Ohtsu’s amniotic fluid.
The piece raises ethical questions about how much emphasis should be placed on allowing humans to screen genetic information.

　昨日、いま新宿オペラシティICCにて行われている上記の展覧会に行ってきた。
ICCはキュレーション（企画者＜正確にはキュレーターという職業の人＞が作品及び作家を選ぶこと）が悪いとよく言われる。
今回の展覧会も、類に漏れずそういった印象を受ける。（もっともこれは私の個人的な感想に過ぎないことは留意しておく）
まず一に、作家が空間という制約に対してそれを越えていない、という印象が強かった。
インスタレーションというなら空間の異化を第一に考えてもらいたい。
作品の特徴が空間を異化させたり、作品自体が空間に依拠してなければ
インスタレーションという形式を自分の作品に当てはめるな、と言ってやりたいぐらいである。
そういった点では《Visual　Brains》/風間正・大津はつね　の作品はインスタレーションとしては良い印象を受ける。
空間がの区切りやその区切りを外から見た効果、そして音に対しては位相による錯聴（おそらく造語になると思う）が含まれている。
音は前から出ているのにも関わらず、後ろから聞こえてくる、というものだ。
繰り返すが、インスタレーションとしては（個人的に）評価できる作品だと思う。
